An amazing spectacle of the strange and disturbing. Cartoonist Sean Smith shares some of his art with the masses on his Blog. Most the the art on my blog is drawn in pen, some is fiddled with is Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator. I sometimes reblog posts I find irresistible. Feel free to ask me questions!

Jimi Hendrix, Lightnin’ Rod & Buddy Miles “Doriella Du Fontaine” (8:47)
(Recorded in 1969)

“Doriella Du Fontaine” brought attention to the remarkable early rap stylings of
The Last Poets member Lightnin’ Rod (Jalal Mansur Nuriddin). This obscure Jimi Hendrix recording
stands as one of his most interesting, albeit short-lived, side projects. Although this 1969 recording date was an impromptu affair, with Jimi Hendrix (who overdubbed bass later), Buddy Miles (who overdubbed organ), and Lightnin’ Rod improvising in the studio, the song is unique and tirelessly funky. Hendrix’ grooving guitar playing is the perfect backdrop for Lightnin’ Rod’s truly imaginative lyrics that tell the outlandish tale of a prostitute.

Zu - Soulympics (Mike Patton)

Welcome to the third installment of: DeathByCartoon brings you: The Genius of Mike Patton.

Yes I am a Patton freak.

Over the next couple of months I will be uploading a rare, hard to find track from Patton’s career everyday (except Sunday, I reserve that day for private Patton worship). Today’s Soulympics is a track off of the Zu album: Carboniferous.

Seven Year Itch - …and the gunslinger followed.

I am finally reading the last book (until the new one) of the Dark Tower Gunslinger series by Stephen King, and have decided to write an album inspired by the set which I have just re-read over the last months.

This song is the first, and I would love some feedback.

It is inspired by the feeling I always get when I start reading the series. The awe of an adventure beginning and the overwhelming feeling of the set of challenges I know Roland will face on his quest to the Tower. The desert sun baking him as he trudges through the dust, the mystery of the tower and the burden of his past filling his mind as he chases the man in black.

So what do you think?
