Yes, Johnny Cash made a children’s album. No, you don’t have to be a kid to enjoy it.
In the liner notes, Johnny Cash’s son laments that it’s the iconic Man In Black everyone remembers, rather than his lighter side. Because he wasn’t a morbid man at all. He was a guy who’d drive the bus for his kids’ class field trips, or write funny songs for his children. He was lighthearted, even when dealing with heavy subject matter. His sheer humanity wins you over. Listen to At Folsom Prison again, you’ll hear him laughing in a room full of thieves and murderers, and getting them to laugh along with him.
